As one of the pillars of our institution, we provide a competitive interscholastic athletic program intended to enrich and enhance the educational experience of our students. At AAS, we believe athletics are a way to engage, support and prepare our students for today and tomorrow. Our athletic community values teamwork, school spirit, and the development of individual skills and self-esteem through training and competition. Emphasis is placed not on winning and losing, but on meeting the challenges of competition to the best of our ability. We believe coaches are both teachers and role models for our athletes and should therefore foster a positive attitude, respect for fair play, and a commitment to lifelong fitness.
This is my third international school. Playing on a sports team at AAS and going to CEESA is one of the reasons I am excited to wake up everyday. I am proud to be a Wolf and feel honored to study at AAS" - 9th grade student 2013-2014
AAS’s Athletic Staff is dedicated to adhering to the values of our mission and strive to ensure not only that our student-athletes are prepared to meet the rigors of competition, but also practice and model a commitment to fair play, decency, and respect for our opponents. In general, our coaches are internally selected from the teaching staff. On occasion, we will hire professional coaches if there is a need to do so. All of our coaches are aware of their responsibilities within the athletic department.
We strive for maximum participation in the middle school and believe that, when available, all students should have the chance to take part in a tourney style experience or game situations. Unfortunately, we are only able to travel to CEESA events with a pre-set number of students for competitions. Having said that, the athletics department organizes a local invitational tournament on campus in order to involve all participants.
Our high school students are very busy balancing their academic and athletic endeavours. If students decide to join a team, they must commit to the full season. Students are only allowed to have two excused absences from practices. All students and parents must sign a CEESA contract agreeing to the responsibilities of joining the team and understand the financial and time commitment.
