Welcome Message from the AAS Board
Greetings Anglo-American School of Sofia (AAS) community members! On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is my great pleasure to welcome you back to campus for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the PTO Welcome Back Barbecue last weekend and we’re looking forward to an exciting schedule of events in the coming months.
I have the honor of serving as the AAS Board Chair this year, taking over for Aaron Cope, who has completed his assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia. I have two children attending AAS, and I’m thrilled to volunteer as one of the nine Board members who are responsible for strategic planning and general oversight for the school. I’ll be joined by three other new Board members from the U.S. Embassy, including Carla Trajkovic, Omar Cavalier, and Shawna Morris. In addition, we are happy to welcome back to the Board four U.K.-nominated representatives: Boris Gurov, Des Malpass, Gia Raskino, and Nikolay Rashkov. Last, but certainly not least, we appreciate Pamela Della Toffola’s continued service as our community representative on the Board. The AAS Board works closely with the AAS leadership team to ensure the best possible learning environment for our children, and we have benefited tremendously over the past few years from the vision and expertise of AAS Director Dr. Tim Fries. I am delighted to share with the AAS community that the Board approved Dr. Fries to continue to serve in this capacity through the 2029-30 school year. We are thankful for Tim’s tireless dedication to the school and look forward to continuing our close cooperation.
Wishing everyone a smooth start to the school year and I’m excited for future opportunities to connect with you on campus.
