Fundraising to Feed the Homeless

For my CAS project, my classmate and I started the initiative Helping Hands. Our goal was to address homelessness in Sofia by preparing and distributing meals to those in need, speaking at assemblies to spread awareness, and starting an instagram page to educate our community. While receiving money from donations, and donating ourselves, we were able to cook large quantities of meals efficiently and personally deliver them to homeless individuals in the city with the help of a local restaurant owner and the Sisters of Mother Theresa. This experience was incredibly meaningful to me, not just because of the impact we had, but because of the lessons I learned along the way.

Since the Gr. 8, I have been volunteering at the Sovereign Order of Malta, helping to package food for poor individuals in Bulgaria. Therefore starting my own project, and distributing and preparing fresh sandwiches myself for them was another step I took to further make a difference. This experience helped me learn the importance of teamwork, time management, commutation but also leadership. I also learned that even small actions can make a big difference, when we got interviewed after our first distribution. It showed me that taking initiative, and starting something, even when you are unsure of if it will make a difference, can help those in need.
