Collecting Bottle Caps for The Future

For our CAS project me and my classmates decided to do different campaigns aimed at raising and contributing to the Bulgarian organisation “Caps for the Future” (“Капачки за бъдещето”). This is an organisation which collects plastic caps from all around Bulgaria. The funds from the caps are then used for a variety of charities such as buying incubators and ambulances. As we believe that not many people know how much of a positive change they can bring to the world just by collecting plastic caps, we wantеd to bring attention to what we as a school can do to be a part of this amazing cause.

Over the span of over a month we wrote informational messages and posters with information regarding the organisation. We also participated in High, Middle and Elementary school assembly during which we incentivised students to start collecting caps and instead of just throwing them away. During one of our activities we organised a fun game during which people won prizes through bringing caps and aiming them at different targets. This activity was vital for raising awareness about the organisation, collecting a great amount of plastic caps and contributing to the school’s spirit.

During this project I believe that I was able to learn a lot and do something good for the community I live in. First, working with two of my other classmates taught me how important communication and good planning is. These two things ensured that we had everything ready, were not behind on our plan and were able to do everything that we had on our to do list. In addition, this way we also had no pressure before our fundraising activity and the assemblies as we felt prepared and did not leave everything for the last minute. The assemblies also helped me learn how to compose myself when speaking in front of so many people and my presentation skills, which I believe is something really valuable. Most importantly, this experience gave me the opportunity to spread awareness about the power of recycling and how plastic caps can contribute to saving people's lives.
