Bulgarian Government COVID-19 Restrictions
- As of 23 June, wearing a face mask is mandatory in all indoor public spaces, with the exception of customers in dining and drinking establishments. If people cannot obtain protective masks, scarfs or other face cover could be used as long as the mouth and nose are covered. Masks should still be worn outside if people are in close proximity to others.
- Inter-regional travel is allowed. Checkpoints at the entrances and exits to regional cities have been removed, and people no longer have to fill out declarations when travelling.
- As of 13 October, people who tested positive for COVID-19 only have to self-isolate for 14 days, with their quarantine being lifted automatically after that period and without a requirement for a negative PCR test.
- The following people who test positive for COVID-19 are subject to mandatory hospital treatment based on the treating doctor’s assessment:
- people over the age of 60, depending on the severity of the illness
- people with pre-existing chronic illnesses and/or immunocompromising conditions, depending on the severity of the illness
- people with severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, appearance of sputum, or hemoptoe
- people without the possibility to self-isolate and treat themselves at a home address, regardless of the severity of the illness
- The following persons are also subject to mandatory home isolation (quarantine) for 10 days:
- People who have had unprotected contact with a coronavirus infected person at a distance of less than 2 m and for more than 15 minutes or without wearing a protective face mask
- 2 days before the onset of complaints of a confirmed case, or
- 2 days before sampling for PCR in asymptomatic carriers.
- Close Contact person is defined as:
- People who have had unprotected contact with a coronavirus infected person at a distance of less than 2 m and for more than 15 minutes or without wearing a protective face mask
- Air travel close to a person with COVID-19 (up to two seats in all directions), travel companion or caregivers, crew members serving the sector where the patient is sitting.
- A medical professional or other person providing direct care to a COVID-19 patient or laboratory personnel handling clinical samples of a patient without the recommended personal protective equipment
- Direct (face-to-face) contact with a COVID-19 patient at a distance of up to 2m and duration over 15 minutes; staying in a closed room (classroom, hospital room, meeting room) for more than 15 minutes and at a distance of at least 2m
- Direct unprotected contact with infectious secretions of a patient with COVID-19(sprayed by sneezing, contact with used handkerchiefs by the patient with bare hands)
- Direct physical contact with a patient of COVID-19 (eg. handshake)
- Living in one household with a patient with COVID-19
- All employers, depending on the specifics and capabilities of their respective work activity, to introduce a remote form of work for their employees. Where this is not possible, employers arrange for enhanced anti-epidemic measures to be taken in the workplace, including: filters, disinfection and ventilation, coaching for personal hygiene of the staff and not admitting employees or outsiders with manifestations of acute infectious diseases.
- The fine for not observing anti-epidemic measures for individuals is between 300-1,000 BGN for a first offense and 1,000-2,000 BGN for a second offense. The fine of 5,000 BGN remains in place for people who violate mandatory quarantine. Businesses who do not follow the measures will be subject to a 15,000 BGN fine.
When to stay home
All students, staff must remain at home if displaying any of the following symptoms:

Temperature higher than 37.6 C

Respiratory symptoms - sore throat, cough, sneezing, runny nose, breathing difficulties.

Sore muscles, aches or chills

Loss of smell and/or taste

Vomiting or diarrhoea

Skin rash/ fingers or toes discolouration

If the student was in contact with someone displaying COVID symptoms or was diagnosed with COVID in his household or elsewhere, the school doctor must be informed.
