Our Grade 12 students had a busy day today - they had to work in teams on a science project, assigned by their teachers (IB Group 4 project).
The assignment was to plan and build a Rube Goldberg machine which is intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overcomplicated fashion. Often, these machines consist of a series of simple devices that are linked together to produce a domino effect. Students had to use recycled materials and rely on their imagination and knowledge in Physics, Chemistry and Biology to make their machines function for 3 minutes.
Although there was a bit of stress and time pressure involved and some of the machine parts didn’t work as planned - at the end everyone had a lot of fun and bonded as a team.
