Bulgarian Festivities in May

Spring in Bulgaria is a wonderful time of the year, packed with festivities. This May we celebrate Easter, Gergyovden, Cyril and Methodius Day and more. You can find more detailed information about some of the holidays in the slideshow.

Among the holidays featured are Gergyovden and St Konstantin and St Elena Day. Here is a traditional Gergyovden recipe for Drob Sarma (contains meat). Also, please enjoy a traditional Nestinari (fire dancers) performance on this link. Did you know that the tradition of Nestinarstvo is part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List?

A road trip suggestion for you is to visit the Nestinari dances in the Village of Bulgari, in Strandja Mountain near the Black Sea coast or just explore the mountain and its beautiful villages, one of which is Brashlyan. There you can enjoy typical houses for the region. If you want to find out more about the houses, visit this site.
