Admissions Criteria
Our Admissions Policy is designed to ensure that enrollment is consistent with the purpose of the school and the needs of both applicants and the existing student body.
In addition to the above, the school takes into consideration policies relating to class size, language support, demographics, special needs and the school’s aim for the student body to comprise of two-thirds international and one-third Bulgarian students.
Provided that age and special needs requirements are met, priority is given to applicants in the following order:
1. Children of employees of the American and British Embassies and related agencies.
2. Children of American and British citizens.
3. Children of employees of other diplomatic missions.
4. Children of parents with other international citizenship
5 .Bulgarian nationals
a. children with siblings currently studying at AAS
b. children of AAS Alumni
c. children who have been studying in other countries at other international schools
d. children currently studying in Bulgaria

Important! Pre-K Admission For 3 Year Olds
AAS is pleased to notify you that for the 2025-26 school year, the Pre-Kindergarten program will accept a limited number of 3 year old children. This will be a pilot program for the 2025-26 school year with a combined classroom for 3 and 4 year old children. AAS will assess the successfulness of including 3 year olds in the Pre-Kindergarten program during the coming school year to determine if it is sustainable for future years.
Children who enter as 3 years olds, will be allowed to move to Kindergarten once they have reached 5 years of age by September 1 of that school year. The Pre-Kindergarten program will be on a two-year curriculum cycle, so the experience will be similar but not the same each year.
Important Details:
- Children must be 3 years of age by September 1, 2025
- Children who enter the Pre-Kindergarten program at the age of 3, will stay in the program for two years before they are permitted to transition to the Kindergarten program at the age of 5.
- Children must be academically, socially, and emotionally ready for the Pre-Kindergarten program (e.g. use the toilet independently)
- Children must be able to be able to provide self-care independently (e.g. toileting, changing clothes)
- Space is limited
