How to Apply

Teaching Positions

We post teaching openings with Search Associates (SA) and International School Services (ISS). On occasion we also use local recruiting agencies. We only accept applications using these platforms. With respect to international recruitment, we post confirmed and anticipated openings during October and November and also attend recruitment fairs in January and/or February. For posted teaching positions we receive an average of about 120 applications per opening, so competition for positions is high!

Admin & Support Positions

For office, support and general administrative roles, recruitment is made locally through advertisements placed with regional agencies. For non-teaching posting we receive between 20 and 150 applications per posting.

After reading the employment requirements and finding that your qualifications and experiences match an opening, please follow the link in the job advert and apply using the platform protocol. Due to the high number of inquiries we receive in a variety of formats, we politely request that you follow the above application guidelines. Please do not apply to individual members of the school administration. Kindly note that AAS will not respond to unsolicited job applications.

Selection & Interview Process

After initial screening of applications we conduct multiple interviews with long-listed candidates. We undertake a significant amount of the initial interview process via online video conferencing. Shortlisted finalist candidates may be invited for a final round of in-person interviews – and possibly presentations – at the school. In such cases, reasonable travel and accommodation expenses will be covered. For successful candidates, offers of employment follow, once all security checks have been completed. The first day of school for students is the last week of August and new teachers are expected to arrive first weekend of August to start their orientation week.. The first day for teaching staff is five school days before the first day of school for students.

Compensation, Benefits & PD

AAS aims to attract the very highest level of teaching and administrative staff and recognizes the role that competitive compensation and benefits play in this goal. We are reconised as a leading international school both here in Bulgaria and Europewide. Part of this reputation stems from our investment in recruiting outstanding staff and faculty. Relocating to a new country – or leaving a current position here in Bulgaria – is not a decision to be taken lightly. It is important that AAS will be a good fit for you – and any family members who may be with you. Internationally Recruited Staff

The chart below provides a brief overview of remuneration, benefits and support in the relation to full-time internationally recruited staff.

Housing	Provided by the school and assigned by the school.
Home of Record Flights	Overseas hire faculty members are extended the benefit of a round-trip economy class home leave airfare at the end of their initial contract with the school, and every year thereafter they are employed by AAS. Overseas faculty in the first year of a two year contract receive a monetary amount to support home travel.
Transportation	School buses available to staff and teachers run to and from school and predetermined stops at the beginning and end of each work day.
Shipping	The school provides a one time shipping allowance per contract: 400 kilograms per employee and 150 kilograms per dependent.
Visa & Work Permit	Fees associated with the visa and work permit are covered by the school.
Tuition for Dependents	Tuition, registration and capital fees covered for children attending AAS.
Insurance	Health insurance (does not include vision and dental – these items are very reasonable in Sofia). Long and short-term disability, group life, accident.
Settling Allowance	Lump sum per household.
Meal Allowance	Lunch card for the cafeteria is provided, which subsidises cost of school meals.
Retirement	Annual lump sum. Financial assistance from a professional planner is provided.
Computer	A school computer is issued upon arrival. The above belongs to the school and is returned to the school at end of service. Computers are updated every three to four years depending on model condition and depreciation.
Professional Development	In general, the school has a four-tiered approach: in-house PD, required external PD, goal related PD and personal professional support. Upon school approval staff have access to a personal professional development sum that can be used annually or accrue for up to three years.
