Greeting my students with enthusiasm in the morning, and seeing their "aha" moments throughout the day brings me immense joy.

Ms. Kath HarjulaGr. 1 Teacher

What brings me the most joy in my job is witnessing my students realize their potential and achieve their goals. Engaging in deep conversations across a wide range of topics and subjects with my students enriches both their learning experience and my own professional fulfillment.

AAS is filled with really beautiful people; lovely, dedicated, professional colleagues and fantastic, happy students! I also think the campus is absolutely stunning. Bulgaria is a wonderful place to work and to live. I spend as much time as I can in the mountains of Bulgaria.

Ms. Jude LittleGr. 4 Teacher

Always Maslow before Bloom. Children are impressionable and we are in the job of moulding the generation of tomorrow. Establishing strong relationships and knowing each student's unique personality, are key to fostering a conducive learning environment.

AAS Sofia is a place where dedication to teaching meets a community of lifelong learners, where the positivism and creativity of the teachers are like nowhere else, and where students are supported in their journey.

I came for the job and stayed for my family. The AAS Community provides me with a great working environment and has given my family many opportunities and support that we would otherwise not have.

I'm Alina, I'm Syrian American, and I moved to this school when I was in grade 6! My favourite teachers always make me feel safe enough to ask questions (even if they just explained the answer).

What I value most about the school is the range of opportunities available beyond the classroom. I have been able to try activities such as pottery, dance, knowledge bowl, maths counts, volleyball, basketball, football, and orchestra.

I was a student at AAS and I am grateful for the window to the world that it opened for me. Now my son is a student at AAS.  While the school provides his foundational education, fosters his critical thinking, and helps develop his social skills, what is most important is that he is very happy to go to AAS every day!

Raising Awe-Seekers

A few weeks ago, as I was welcoming the students off the buses in the morning, something beautiful happened. A stork landed on the other side of the field and started having its breakfast of worms. As soon as the Elementary Students spotted it, they all stopped their games of tag, they all stopped chatting about their week-end, they all stopped to watch this majestic bird eat, in silence.

School Should Be The Best Party In Town.

Yikes! There are only 19 days of school remaining in the 2024-25 school year. That means summer is quickly approaching (even if the weather does not seem that way). It also means we are in the exciting–and a bit frenetic–season of special events.

Look Up: Considering the Roles of Cell Phones

In the annals of long distance travel - whether by skiff or Shinkansen, by Ryanair or Ford Ranger - no singular invention has made travelling with younguns more bearable than the invention of the hand-held screen.  The fidgety knuckleheadness of chair-strapped youths almost overnight vanished when this glorious, golden personalized player emerged from the bag of wet wipes, crackers and squished bananas. Enter Teletubbies, Superfriends, Brawl Stars and Roblox.

Change is Part of Life

As school counselor, I'm involved in a lot of different transitions. And it's definitely that time of year: Grade 5 students are getting ready to move up to Middle School, for example, and grade 8s are preparing for High School. The students are, of course, accompanied by their families,  joining in for the ups and downs that will accompany those big divisional milestones.

Life Is Better In Flip Flops

As we head into a very “long weekend” in honor of the Bulgarian holidays of Labor Day (May 1) and St. George’s Day (May 6) which fall on Thursday and Tuesday respectively, I took some time this week to talk with students and staff about what they are looking forward to doing on the days off.

Hold On To Your Kids

I’m often asked by parents what they can do to support their child’s social emotional development outside of school. There is no big secret, and most already know the answer before asking; family. Specifically, spending time with your children.

Did you know that the “The prevalence of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa has risen in eight out of 10 Eastern European countries (Belarus, Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia) over the three past decades (1990-2019)?” This information is taken from a fascinating study from the Institute of Psychology at the University of Wrocław.
