CounselingThe goal of the AAS Counseling Department is to meet the needs of every student, from academic development and life skills education to college advisement. A key objective is to develop and maintain a strong sense of partnership between the student, the teachers and the family. The counselors directly support the implementation of Personal and Social Health Education (PSHE). Counselors meet with small groups and with individuals to focus on issues important to positive development. Academic support is available to all students in cooperation with teachers and parent. Educational goals are devised with indentified students in cooperation with the Resource teacher. College Advisement will assist each student to achieve successful goals for post secondary training. The college counselor works continuously with college and university admissions to heighten their awareness of AAS and the individual student capabilities and goals. The philosophy of the relationship between the counselor and the students is to assist them in discovering their intellectual and emotional needs to help define the most appropriate college where the students will be challenged, happy, and fulfilled; where success can be achieved. Counselors are available to meet with parent as well. Please call to arrange an appointment if desired with the appropriate counselor. |
