About Bulgaria

Where is Bulgaria? Bulgaria is located on the Balkan Peninsula. It is bordered by Greece on the south, Serbia and Macedonia on the west, Romania on the north, and on the east by the Black Sea and Turkey. Bulgaria has a very rich variety of land features. The highest mountains are in the Rila, Pirin and Rhodope Mountains in the South. Wide valleys and plains are found in the Rose, Mizia and Trakia Valleys in the east along with sandy beaches along the Black Sea. The climate is continental. There are four seasons with winters that are snowy and cold and summers that are hot.

Bulgarians are hospitable to expatriates and will often go out of their way to be helpful. Most of the young people speak English. There are wide variety of stores, restaurants, service companies and night life in the capital city of Sofia. Like most large cities there are plenty of western chain restaurants such as McDonalds, Subway and Pizza Hut. The city is very safe, although driving can be a challenge.
